The only thing missing from last year’s record setting Vikings defense was a pass rush. Without QB pressure the Patriots exposed the Vikings and provided the NFL with a blueprint for a poor season. That all changed in week one with new defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier. After watching this defense dismantle the Falcons and pressure Harrington into multiple bad decisions, I’m thinking playoffs.

With the Lions, the pathetic Chiefs and the offensiveless Packers on the schedule before a true test away at the Bears, the Vikings have a legitimate chance of being 4-1 or 5-0 before a tough stretch with the Cowboys, Eagles and Chargers to wrap up the first half.
For the first time in a long time I’m excited to see what this defense can do, if Peterson will stay healthy and put up 1,300 yds with 12 TD’s and how Jackson and Rice will develop. It was fun to see how much fun the players where having on the sidelines in the fourth quarter. Everyone seems more comfortable with Childress, his system and just how good this team can be.
Then again it was the Vickless Falcons.
Up next, a chance to give the “10 win” Lions a reality check. I can’t wait.

A couple comments. I think you’re right about the Vikings’ chances against the Lions and the Chiefs. However, every year we under estimate the Packers and they beat us. Their defense looked pretty good yesterday, not as good as ours, but probably in the top third of the league. The pack have no running game, but they wouldn’t be able to run on us even if they did. The problem is that Favre might be able to throw it around on us a little. Since we are at home I think we’ll take that one, but we’ll lose later in the year in Green Bay. We also probably won’t score against the Bears, and you can’t win if can’t score, especially in Soldier. However, I think we’ll beat the Cowboys. The Cowboy defense looks punchless without Terrance Newman, and Roy Williams seems to play the pass worse every year; it’s almost like he is Sampson and his hair is the horse collar tackle- without it he loses all his strength! I also think we can beat the Eagles at home, they are an aging team and Donnovan looked like a statue on Sunday. Best case scenario, in my opinion, we go 4-0, lose to the Bears, then beat the ‘Boys on the road and come home to beat the Eagles at home. That would give us a 6-1 record before our stretch of losing to the Chargers and Packers (we almost always split), taking our record to 6-3. We will then beat the Division I-A Raiders, lose to the Giants because we haven’t even come close to beating them this decade, bringing our record to 7-4. I think we’ll split the last 4 games, winning against the Lions and Redskins and losing to the Niners and Bears. Overall record 9-6 - might get a wildcard. And remember, this is BEST case scenario; I’m pretty sure we are all aware that we can lose to any team on any given Sunday…
